Murphy-Wall State Bank and Trust Company has received the viewer’s choice award for their float entry in this year’s Pinckneyville Mardi Gras Parade. Additionally, the bank received the second place award in the business category of the float productions which had taken part. The theme for the 96th annual Mardi Gras was “Light Up the Night,” and Murphy-Wall employees spent many hours of their volunteer time constructing a float titled, “Fireworks in the Park” their take on what proved an enlightening experience. Dressed in glow-sticks and other illuminated garb, the Murphy-Wall steppers group led the way performing an “explosive” dance routine. Following their coordinated footwork through the parade route, the float brightly displayed a rendition of an arch reading, “Murphy-Wall Park,” an homage to the entrance to the Perry County Fairgrounds, where firework shows are conducted each year. Bursts of confetti and glimmering models of colorful fireworks frozen in full blast were not only assembled in efforts to please the crowds aligning the sidewalks, but also to serve as a way in saying Murphy-Wall “shines on” with a lasting spark in community banking.
