Murphy-Wall State Bank and Trust Company Recognizes Iris and Evelyn Zheng as February Students of the Month

Iris Zheng

After high school, Iris plans to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she will begin in the Pre‑Pharmacy Program. From there, she hopes to be accepted into the conditional entry program, securing a seat in SIUE’s School of Pharmacy. Her long‑term goal is to complete the six‑year program and earn her license to become a pharmacist.

During her time in high school, she has been a member of Band, Beta Club, Music Makers, and the Million Words Club. She also participated in a mission trip with Give Kids the World in Florida and volunteered her time at the Pinckneyville Community Center, as well as during the Mardi Gras Field Show. Overall, Iris has been highly active in her academics, extracurriculars, and community involvement. We wish her the best of luck in her bright future.

Evelyn Zheng

After high school, Evelyn also plans to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to pursue Pre‑Pharmacy, followed by the entry program for SIUE’s School of Pharmacy. Her long‑term goal is to complete her Doctorate in Pharmacy and eventually return to Pinckneyville to begin her career in the field.

During her time in high school, Evelyn has participated in Band, Beta Club, Million Words Club, and Music Makers. She leads the trumpet section and served as Student Director for Music Makers last year. She also joined the Give Kids the World mission trip in Florida and volunteered through after‑school tutoring, NubAbility Camps, and the Mardi Gras Field Show. Overall, Evelyn has shown dedication to her academics, extracurricular involvement, and service to her community. We wish her the best of luck in her bright future.

About the Award

At the start of the school year, PCHS seniors were invited to apply for the Murphy-Wall State Bank PCHS Student of the Month by submitting a personal essay of at least 500 words. From twenty-six applicants, in total 12 students including, Eliza HeisnerLia FarlowArryn OverturfMackenna WesselnGavin HeltonReed Marlow, Tania Onate, Ella Keene, Iris Zheng and Evelyn Zheng along with 2 yet to be named students will be selected to receive the Student of the Month title along with a $50 award. At the end of the school year, one of these twelve will be named Student of the Year and awarded a $1,000 scholarship, while another will be honored as the President’s Scholar, also receiving a $1,000 scholarship.
