Austin Alerts Seniors on ID Fraud

Murphy-Wall State Bank Electronic Banking Specialist Kara Austin recently met with the Pinckneyville Senior Citizens Club on the topic of identity protection.
She chose to speak with the senior club not only to provide members with tips on how to stay financially secure, but also to fulfill a requirement from the Illinois Bankers Association’s Future Leaders Alliance Program, completing a community service project to help enhance her leadership skills and teach financial literacy.

At their December meeting Austin covered the topics of identity theft protection, debit card fraud, the dark web, and data breaches. They even discussed how to spot card skimmers and how those skimmers collect card information. She reported of the group, “The club members were very eager to participate in the conversation by asking questions and sharing their own experiences. I am very grateful that they gave me the opportunity to talk to them and participate in the rest of their Christmas celebration.”

With four years in the data processing department, Austin has become well versed on the subjects of card fraud, electronic banking services, branch capture operations, and ACH Operations.
