Murphy-Wall State Bank and Trust Company is announcing the retirement of long time employee Julie Briley, VP and Branch Manager, effective September 30th. Briley has been a VP and Branch Manager of the Elkville location for Murphy-Wall since 2013, when she helped oversee the transition of the former Elkville State Bank into the Murphy-Wall family.

Beginning her banking career in 1999, Briley started as a teller with Elkville State Bank. At this time everything was still done with handwritten tickets and very little computer work. Briley can remember sorting and filing checks by hand into customers’ individual folders. Throughout her career, she has witnessed the transformation of banking into the digital age, mastering many new technologies along the way.  Briley continued the banking tradition from her father, Rollins “Bud” Haven, Jr., who served as the Elkville State Bank president until his retirement in 2013.  She credits her dad with inspiring her to have a strong work ethic and perseverance; two traits she says have led to her success.

Briley was promoted in 2013, during the acquisition and merger of Elkville State Bank with Murphy-Wall State Bank and Trust Company, becoming the Elkville Branch Manager as well as a VP with the company. Briley’s experience with the location combined with advice and guidance from Murphy-Wall CEO, Marty Davis, and COO, Susan Davis, helped her to successfully transition the bank into a proud branch of Murphy-Wall. Besides her banking experience and leadership role within the company, Briley has also contributed to the community with many charitable Murphy-Wall events, and has even become a valued member of the Murphy-Wall marketing team.

While excited for the future, Briley says she will miss her coworkers and customers, both old and new. “So many of the customers are like family to me,” Briley said, “I’ve enjoyed being able to help customers with their banking needs.” In her retirement, Briley looks forward to being able to spend more time with her family and hopes to spend more time camping and exploring the great outdoors.  The absence of Ms. Briley and her many skills will be greatly missed by everyone here at Murphy-Wall State Bank and Trust Company; both by the employees, customers, and the surrounding community.

There will be an Open House at the Murphy-Wall Elkville branch on Friday, September 30th, 2022 during business hours, to come wish Julie well in her next chapter. Murphy-Wall State Bank and Trust Company will be providing donuts in the morning and cookies in the afternoon, free of charge.
